John Tesh to Herald Holidays With Concert
Christmas will be here soon. John Tesh's Christmas concert will be here sooner. Tesh, a giant in the easy-listening musical genre, is scheduled to perform Dec. 16 at the WSRE-TV Jean and Paul Amos Performance Studio at Pensacola State College. Tickets are on sale now, but there are only 500 seats in the studio. But if you don't go to the concert, you'll still get a chance to see it. WSRE is recording the concert in high-definition for broadcast at a later date. Rebekah Rigby of Pensacola doesn't plan to wait. Tesh is one of her favorite musical performers —she saw him for the first time last year when he played at the Pensacola Saenger Theatre. This concert will feature exclusively holiday music. Tesh will be joined by 12 band members, including eight horn players, as he performs standards such as "We Three Kings" and "Silent Night." But he's also well-known outside the music industry. Tesh first gained fame when he hosted the television program "Entertainment Tonight" from 1986 to 1996. Currently, he hosts a syndicated radio program that is broadcast locally from 5 to 10 a.m. weekdays on WMEZ-FM 94.1 (Soft Rock 94.1). Soft Rock 94.1 is one of the hosts for the Christmas concert. WSRE spokeswoman Robin McArthur said Tesh's management contacted the station looking for a venue to produce high-definition footage of the performance that Tesh will use for a project. WSRE negotiated with Tesh to use its own footage of the concert to air locally. WMEZ program director Kevin Peterson thinks the show is a perfect holiday starter. "You'll have traditional Christmas songs, and he has his own Christmas songs he's done," Peterson said. "It's something that will really get you in the holiday mood."
